On Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, 2017, many of the parishioners of St. Clement Pope and Martyr Parish, in Rockaway Township, responded to the suggestion of Fr. Rick Hardy, Parish Pastor, that they wear red clothing items on the feast of Pentecost.
Pentecost is recognized as the birthday of the Roman Catholic church. The Roman Rite has chosen the color red to denote this special feast day. While red is typically reserved for days celebrating martyrs, or feasts of Jesus’ passion, in the case of Pentecost it reflects the flames of fire that came down upon the apostles, as well as the fire of “burning charity” that arose in them after that day.
